Action Steps for a Healthier Holiday Season (and a look ahead to January)

Happy Healthy Holidays!

Do you struggle with the highs and lows of your health and wellness that accompany the holiday season?  You want to make healthy choices and stay “on track” but the festive months full of parties, gatherings, and temptations seem to always derail you…

We have all been there: feeling BLAH after the last two months of constant intake of treats, sweets, and sips that don’t exactly align with our goals of balanced and healthy nutrition.

While I never promote an “all or nothing” mindset (either being too strict and depriving yourself of anything you like vs. throwing all caution to the wind and indulging with abandon) - I do believe that we can navigate the overwhelm of the holidays with a mindset of balance and enjoyment.

5 BIG PICTURE THOUGHTS

These concepts apply all year long, but they are most clearly effective during the holidays, when it’s easiest to forgo all of the wonderful efforts you’ve made through the year to improve and sustain your wellness.

  1. Tools are greater than rules.

  2. Progress over perfection.

  3. Make a plan and stick to it!

  4. Know how to talk to others about your choices.

  5. Remember your “why.”
